After I released the bat pattern, I wasn’t done with Halloween. I really wanted to make a Frankenstein’s monster block too! I just love the look of this guy!
Here’s a different Frank I made several years ago.
I Frankified the Karl with a K doll pattern to make him, and there’s a free tutorial showing how to do that here.
But back to applique Frank. I know I’m nearing the finish line on the ABC quilt, and also on a Pets bundle, but Halloween is just around the corner and I couldn’t resist taking a little detour. Especially since we recently watched Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. (Yes! I’ll do a Bride pattern too - but probably not until next year.) Here’s an additional block sample I made in shades of gray, inspired by the black and white movies.
This version is my daughter’s favorite. I think I want to do all the Universal movie monsters this way. That will be a really fun quilt!
If you want to use this guy to decorate a trick-or-treat bag, there’s a free bag pattern here that’s just the right size.
This pattern is free for all paid newsletter subscribers. Paid or free, keep scrolling until you get the the section called The Download. That’s where you’ll find the links you need to get it. 🥰
Last week you all voted on Tucker Tiger (by a whisker) for my ABC sample.
(Don’t worry if you preferred Thaddeus! You’ll be able to pick your own blocks for your ABC quilts.)
Tucker needs a complete update to add SVG files, so he just moved way up on my list of projects. But November will be here before we know it and I also need to think about a new calendar.
Whoever wins will also be the next set of printables. 🥰
This is where my ABC sample stands so far.
So close!
The pig, quail, and zebra patterns are already fully updated, so all I need to do for them is make new samples in this color palette. I’m attending a mystery conference (that’s a conference with people who read and write mysteries, not a conference where I don’t know what’s on the agenda 😂) later this week, so I’m keeping my work to-do list short.
Here’s your weekly dose of awesomeness from the Shiny Happy People group!
Take a look at this fabulous quilt than Ann made with the Lovable Mutts pattern!
I love the palette that she chose and the addition of glasses and other accessories from the Fancy Doodads pattern, but I also want to point out something else that she did that’s really special.
She turned the simple Lovable Mutts pattern into a mix and match pattern! I’ve been meaning to make a few tweaks to the pattern to make this extra easy (and to show some samples) but Ann beat me to it. And you don’t have to wait either! Just start swapping around parts! Put Kingsley’s ears on Fritz’s head and Fritz’s muzzle on Iggy’s face and Iggy’s face on Jester’s body. You get the idea! If you do this you can make way more than the fourteen pups included in the pattern. And you’ll have a lot of fun. 🥰
She also made an especially nice backing using scraps from all the dogs, so be sure to click through to see that photo too.
Head over to the Shiny Happy People group on Facebook to see lots more wonderfulness people are making with my patterns—and to ask questions and share photos of your own projects. It’s my favorite place on the internet.
In an effort to make this newsletter short enough to go through most email providers without getting chopped off, I’ve broken out some favorite pieces to give them their own days.
Wednesday is for inspiration - favorite artists, books, recipes, and more. In last week’s visible mending edition of Five Happy Things, these soot sprites and this rainbow hiding a coffee stain were tied for the most clicks.
Friday is for oldies but goodies from the archives. Last week this post showing how to make a kajillion different costumes with no pattern got twice as many clicks as everything else. Halloween is in the air! I hope you all find this method as useful as I did!
As I mentioned above, the download this week is a the new Frankenstein’s Monster pattern.
If you don’t want to pay for Everything Under the Sun access ($5 per month or $50 per year), you can simply purchase the pattern here. Easy peasy! 🥰 Have fun with it!
That’s the end of the newsletter for free subscribers. Thanks so much for reading - and I hope you have a fabulous week!
