I finished making my new koala samples, but I still need to edit photos and videos and write the pattern. Look for that update later this week!
In the meantime, this week’s news is going to be a bit of a catch-all. 🙂
Thanks so much for voting in last week’s poll. Lucien Lion won, so I’ll be redoing that pattern a bit (by making the mane optional and offering a more slender body option) to make it work for female lions and also any narrow-faced big cats - like leopards, jaguars and panthers. I’m also going to experiment with offering a pointier ear option to see if it will work for cougars and pumas too. I see much studying of big cat photos and videos in my immediate future!
I’m also starting to think about an August calendar image. I’ve really been enjoying making cut paper versions of some of my quilt blocks. These are the ones I’m considering for August. . .
You decide!
The winner will be available August 1!
You can only buy Shiny Happy World designs in a very few places - but all those places have something new right now!
Chantell’s Creations has permission to sell my applique designs formatted for embroidery machines and she just added my favorite fish from the Fish quilt pattern! You can find that fish in her shop here. She also added my favorite wonky waves background quilting design - I used it in every block in my Fish sample. You can find the embroidery machine file for those waves here.
Connecting Threads has a new minky fabric called Floofy 🥰 and they’re using it to make kits for my Bear Lovie and Bunny Lovie patterns! Get the Bear Lovie kit here and the Bunny Lovie kit here.
I finally got samples of the last two colors for the Sea Breeze fabric collection! The Coral Blenders are all rosy peach/salmon - my version of orange for the Sea Breeze collection. The Sunshine Blenders are bright, cheerful yellow.
These fabrics are available on Spoonflower now. (And Spoonflower has 20% off all fabric through Thursday July 18th!) I’m using them in samples for a few different bundles-in-progress - an Arctic bundle and a new Australian bundle. (See the purple koala in the first image - that’s the first sample I’ve made for the Australian bundle.)
Whew! That’s a lot of new stuff for a week where I didn’t actually finish anything. 😂
Awesomeness from the Shiny Happy People group!
The Playful Puppies have been getting a lot of love lately! Look at this beautiful quilt that Ann made for her granddaughter! She’s making a different quilt for each grandchild - this is number four out of six!
Head over to the Shiny Happy People group on Facebook to see lots more wonderfulness people are making with my patterns—and to ask questions and share photos of your own projects. It’s my favorite place on the internet!
The archives and sale now have their own newsletter every Friday. Last week this free pattern got the most clicks. It’s a great way to get extra use out of applique patterns you already have - and it makes a fantastic gift!
If you know someone who’d like to read this newsletter, please share! 🥰
Happy stitching!
I hope you have a fabulous week!
Best,
Wendi

PS - This week I’m going to a Silent Reading Party and I’m absolutely giddy with anticipation! It’s exactly what it sounds like - a bunch of people getting together to read. We’ll be gathering on a farm under a 500-year-old oak tree and listening to live mellow background music as we read. People - this is an introvert’s dream!!! I’ve got my book all picked out and I’m counting down the days.
I will be heading back to NC while you are finishing your amazing Silent Reading Party. I’ve had a lovely week with my friend in Willamette Valley and Mt. Hood regions, and hope to catch a glimpse of you next time I am blessed to travel this way. Oregon is so so beautiful- I think this every time I visit! Enjoy your SRP!
I'd love to know your book choice. When I travel I love choosing the book!
