New pattern this week!
I drew this cutie back on 2020 as part of a 100 Day Project where I started out designing fabric and ended up designing faces AND fabric. 🥰 You can see my original Instagram post here.
It took a long time, but I finally turned my drawing into an applique pattern!
As a reminder, there’s a new way to get your patterns - an even better replacement for the Funny Faces Club. You can read all the details in last week’s newsletter.
In a nutshell, scroll to the section called The Download at the end of this email. 🙂
Last week you all voted and said I should be working on the Pets bundle.
Okey-dokie!
I thought I’d share what I have finished so far.
I’m going to be asking for a lot of input as I go along, but for now my question is about two existing patterns I want to include. Calvin Cockatiel needs lightbox instructions, and Frasier Frog needs lightbox instructions and an SVG file. Both of these additions will mean an updated pattern (which will be free for Everything Under the Sun subscribers). Which should I do first?
I’m working on a block for U for the ABC quilt - updating the unicorn/horse pattern!
Before I can make my samples, I need to quilt some more background blocks. I ordered a batch of bright red blenders for a Lunar Zodiac bundle (which will be one of the horse samples) and a bunch of amethyst blenders for a Fantasy Creatures bundle (that will be the unicorn sample).
I’m eager to get stitching! 🥰 Quilting background squares means listening to an audiobook (my current one is The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax) and settling in for a few hours of sewing machine doodling.
Spoonflower introduced two new wide fabrics - and they’re 20% off through midnight tonight!
When I say wide, I mean REALLY wide. The regular Organic Cotton Sateen (which I love and use for all my appliques) is 56 inches wide - significantly wider than standard quilting cotton, which makes the higher price easier to swallow.
The new wide fabrics are a whopping 116 inches wide!!!
Of course, wide fabric like this is perfect for cheater projects!
Here’s what my Woodland Critters cheater fabric (the square blocks are 4 inches) looks like.
And that’s not even the full width!
You can find more info about the two new wide fabrics here. I’d recommend the lighter weight for cheater quilts.
And you can find all my cheater fabrics here, shown mocked up on bedding to give you a better picture of the scale.
There’s even a Christmas cheater print - for anyone out there thinking of making a holly jolly holiday quilt. 🎄
Here’s your weekly dose of awesomeness from the Shiny Happy People group!
I don’t usually share photos from anonymous posters here, but this version of the Paper Dolls quilt was too awesome not to share!
Paper Dolls is probably my most challenging pattern - mostly because of the size of the pieces. This person used it as a jumping off point to make a quilt for a retiring drama teacher! They got together with 18 friends to make blocks representing some of the plays directed by this teacher in their over-30-year career. What an incredible gift!!!
Head over to the Shiny Happy People group on Facebook to see lots more wonderfulness people are making with my patterns—and to ask questions and share photos of your own projects. It’s my favorite place on the internet.
The archives and sale now have their own newsletter every Friday. Last week this post got twice as many clicks as everything else. If you liked that one, you might also like this slightly silly take on embroidery stabilizers, in which I compare them to different kinds of underwear. 😂
As I mentioned above, the download this week is the adorable new Oodles Orangutan pattern.
If you don’t want to pay for Everything Under the Sun access ($5 per week or $50 per year), you can purchase the orangutan pattern here. Easy peasy! 🥰 Have fun with it!
That’s the end of the newsletter for free subscribers. Thanks so much for reading - and I hope you have a fabulous week!
