This year I'm hoping to learn to persist in stitching/crafting badly on the road to getting better - and to that end, I encourage you to check out Destashify (https://destashify.com/) and A Thrifty Notion (https://athriftynotion.com/), two online places where people get rid of their stashes and find things. As a newbie, I feel like I "waste" a lot of fabric on wrecks and mistakes, but if I start out with deadstock or vintage fabric from someone's stash, I feel... better about it somehow?
I also like fiction like you mentioned and will give CIRCLE a try.
I tried listening to Song of Achilles on audio book and thought the same...he was too whiny and the love interest was starting to get creepy imho so I didn't finish it.
Along those lines, do you like Broadway musicals? I absolutely LOVE them and there's a new one in the works...it's called EPIC and you can find clips on youtube. My daughter introduced me to it and the music is amazing. A fun listen, if that's your kind of thing. :) Thanks for sharing your creativity and for being an inspiration!
Wendy - you are such a creative leader - I added several comments to yesterday's posts and shared how I learned Tunesian Crochet and how your Quilt As You Go tutorials helped me create and FINISH my first quilt successfully
I really enjoyed the Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood. It's all told from Penelope's point of view (the wife of Odysseus). And I remember liking Firebrand by Marion Zimmer Bradley a lot - but I read that DECADES ago and maybe it doesn't hold up well? It's the story of the Trojan War told from the point of view of Cassandra - the seer that nobody believed.
I’ve read the first one but I’ll give the other ones you listed a try! Apparently the term “Cassandra complex” means when an individuals accurate prediction of a crisis is ignored (I’m assuming it’s based off this story maybe!!)
Also - I almost forgot - the Stephen Fry retellings of Greek myths are WONDERFUL. I think he has three so far - Heroes, Mythos, and Troy. I haven't read Troy yet, but I'm eager to.
I'm sure it is. If I remember right, Apollo fell in love with Cassandra, so he gave her the gift of prophecy. Her prophecies were ALWAYS right. But she rejected Apollo. Instead of taking back his gift, he cursed her instead so that nobody would ever believe her. Typical. 😂
Just wanted to say hello…from the Swiss mountains! I love your quilt patterns, and have now made three…something I never thought I’d achieve! I’ve also just finished my first cloth book, which is so sweet…thank you for all that you do!
I’ve had people asking me for years if I have some version of a “tip jar.” That’s what this is. You do NOT need to pay to get the newsletter. That (and all the tutorials at Shiny Happy World) remain totally free. But for people who want to support my work but aren’t interested in patterns, this is now an option. If you do become a paid subscriber, there are a few extra perks you’ll get - a 20% discount, occasional extra free downloads, and early access to any sample sales.
Song of Achilles is one of my favorite books of all time--highly recommend! :)
Thanks!

Either way, I hope it's helpful for someone.
These are awesome! Thanks!

Thanks so much! 🥰
This year I am determined to learn Procreate - especially doing watercolors.
I have a bunch of Domestica and Udemy classes I bought when they were in sale for $9-$15 each.
I love Procreate SO MUCH! Have fun with it.
Song of Achilles is very good, and I highly recommend it. War is the background but the relationship is tender.
Thanks!
Thank you for suggesting Storygraph. It sounds amazing, I’ve been wanting a replacement for Goodreads! I’ll try it out
I’m obsessed with song of Achilles! I’m on the lookout for similar books!
