Welcome to the Pacific Northwest!!! I live up in Washington but visit the Portland area a lot. By the way, that is a thundercloud plum in your photo. They make the sidewalks the loveliest color pink!!
Love your newsletter and the new design of it . Will you be changing your PO Box address on the bottom of the email. I live in Australia so I don’t know how far Portland , Oregon is from Asheville NC. Enjoy your new home and community .
I'm so happy that you're loving Portland. I too am a walker, at home and wherever I'm visiting, including Portland. I just got home from visiting Savannah Georgia for the first time, and oh my, what a gorgeous town for walking!! I have loved Faith Ringgold's art for years, and prefer beans over meat anyday, thank you for your recipe!!
Love your newsletter! So are you in Portland Oregon?? Wishing you and your family all the best in your new home! And I am going to try your beans recipes today! It was very timely!
Oh, I have you beat by eight years. I was *determined* to learn to drive sooner than my mother, who learned to drive when I was five, and she was twenty-nine. My dyscalculia makes driving a real chore, and while I CAN I don't love to, and so avoid when possible. I love my bright orange bike. California hasn't been laid out as carefully in all areas to allow for that walking life, but I can walk to stores and a Mailboxes, Etc., here very easily. I hope someday to be even closer to a coffee shop (that isn't Starbucks).
I, too, am a hustler - mainly because I think in the back of my mind, traffic/people make me anxious, and I just want to get done and get home, BUT certainly in Portland the windows are worth looking into! Maybe that's true of everywhere. Maybe I should slow down...
In the meantime, it's so, so good to hear that you're enjoying everything so far.

I will - as soon as I get a new one set up here. :-) We moved 2644 miles. It took us five days to make the drive!

Oooh! I love Savannah! I chaperoned a Girl Scouts field trip there once and we did an awesome walking tour.
Me too, a wonderful walking tour!
Thank you for the link to the story about Faith Ringgold.
You're welcome! She's one of my favorite artists and I'm always happy to tell people about her. :-)

Yes! Portland Oregon, where today was sunny and beautiful and gorgeous and everyone I spoke to ended our conversation with, "Enjoy the sunshine!" 😁

Twenty-eight! That's impressive! I finally had to do it at 20 because I was living in rural Minnesota and it was the ONLY way to get around.
Me too, on Rancho Gordo beans. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
Bon appetit! 😋
