I will second the Louise Penny Gamache novels - I am currently read her most recent (The Grey Wolf) and read more and more slowly as I get to the end because I don’t want it to be over!

Wow, do I love Laura Ingalls Wilder's Farmer Boy, as well as Fannie Flagg's Fried Green Tomatoes books! Those are great selections! I think Wilder's These Happy Golden Years has some good descriptions of food too. Happy Thanksgiving!

I had to try Kinsey Millhone's peanut butter and pickle sandwich when I was reading the series. 😁 I didn't dislike it but it didn't do anything for me. I also love all the food descriptions in A Song of Ice and Fire - always thinking about little fish fried crisp for breakfast! 😋

The Marshmallow Cafe by CP Ward. I came to the book for the Christmas town but was entertained by the descriptions of making homemade marshmallows and hot cocoa. Perfect for the Christmas holidays

That looks cute! I made homemade marshmallows once and they were terrific. :-)

I agree with all your recommendations, Wendy! I even bought the Nero Wolfe Cookbook by Rex Stout and the editors of The Viking Press, 1973. Many of the recipes are complicated, but the excerpts from the novels are delicious.

Looking forward to seeing Wendy and the Gratz family at Malice Domestic in April, 2025.

I have that cookbook too!!!

Totally agree about Farmer Boy. The breakfast descriptions are memorable (so many " steaming platters! ") as is the chapter when the parents leave the kids on their own. LIW at her funniest.
