I was privileged to study with Victor LaValle during my MFA and he is ferociously brilliant - and kind of terrifying, honestly (he was a big proponent of deleting whole manuscripts, and scared the wee out of us students) but I really enjoyed getting to know him. I really dislike horror, but I will read just about anything of his. I've been nerving myself up for this one!
I thought it was really terrific and not overly grisly, which is my problem with some horror. This was more creeping dread (what I LOVE in horror) and excellent social commentary. I hope you like it!
