A New Layout Guide! The Much-Requested Added Half-Blocks!
Plus - an astounding collection of naked rag dolls
The layout guide for a complex grid with added half-blocks is finished!
You can download it here.
As a reminder, the goal behind these guides is to make it super easy for you to use any quilt layout with any pattern - no matter what you see on the pattern cover. Each guide has fabric requirements, cutting instructions, and assembly diagrams for 6 different sizes, from Itty Bitty Baby to King size. The new guide joins the following. . .
simple grid
checkerboard grid
grid with sashing and borders
So if you buy, for example, the Bunches of Bears pattern (its cover shows a simple grid sample) and you want to add half-blocks with bear sounds, similar to this. . .
The new guide tells you exactly what you need to do! How much fabric to buy, how many blocks of each size to cut, how to lay them out, etc.
Basically, I did all the math for you. 🥰
You can find all the guides I’ve done so far here.
Which brings me to. . .
I’m feeling mathy and ready to work on another guide right away. 🧐
I’m always so curious to see what you choose!
This week I’m working on making bats!
I’m so tickled with how my sketches turned out and I can’t wait to make my samples this week!
I decided to draw the bat two ways. The main sample is the bat hanging upside down with his wings wrapped around his body. It’s super cute and it’ll look terrific combined with lots of my animal blocks. 🥰
But I also made a second version! This one uses the same cute face as the main one, but shrunk down just a bit, and with extended wings so it looks like it’s flying. This version feels very Halloweeny to me and would be super fun mixed in with haunted house blocks made with the Shiny Happy Houses pattern. 🥰
You’ll get both options in the same pattern and I expect to have it finished by Monday. 🥰
Here’s your weekly dose of awesomeness from the Shiny Happy People group!
Candis is making Dress Up Bunch dolls for all TWELVE of her grandchildren for Christmas! The dolls are made - now she’s getting ready to sew the clothes. That’s a lot of sewing!
I can’t wait to see them all finished!!!
Head over to the Shiny Happy People group on Facebook to see lots more wonderfulness people are making with my patterns—and to ask questions and share photos of your own projects. It’s my favorite place on the internet!
The archives and sale now have their own newsletter every Friday. Last week this post got the most clicks. My favorite use for this technique is the tire-track quilting I did on my Beep Beep quilt sample. 🚗
I hope you have a fabulous week!
Best,
Wendi
🥰
PS - Halloween Lofi Girl is back! I listen to the regular Lofi Girl constantly while I work, and last year I loved the Halloween version. It’s like creepy carnival music and it’s so much fun. I was so surprised to turn on my computer this morning and see that she’s back!
Hello Wendi, I'm so liking your E-mails especially right now. I fell on July 1st, 2024 and broke my femur in my right thigh in 2 places. It's 12 weeks now and I still cannot walk . Full weight on my leg yet, but hopefully soon. At some point I hope to get back to being able to sew. So when I can I can start on a new project from your site. So until then I just keep watching and enjoying everything you have to offer. I'm especially interested in making the dolls. I have six grandchildren who would just love them along with their grandma. So until then I'm wishing you. The best on creating all your products . So Looking forward to your next post.
