Free Calvin Cockatiel Applique Pattern
Plus an Emoji-Style Quilt-in-Progress Using Just the Heads
Calvin Cockatiel just got a bit of a facelift.
(I’m in the process of updating all my older patterns to include SVG files and videos showing assembly both with and without using a light box. Thirty-one individual block patterns still to go! Sorry - this is taking forever.)
In addition to the cockatiel in realistic colors, I realized that swoopy crest and the pointy feathers leading into it would make this the perfect pattern for a phoenix to include in a fantasy bundle I’m working on. Look how it turned out!
I love it!
The updated cockatiel pattern is free for all newsletter subscribers. Keep scrolling until you get the the section called The Download. That’s where you’ll find the links you need to get it. 🥰
This week is all about wrapping up 2024. . .
Tidying my studio
Designing the January calendar
End of year bookkeeping and tax prep (blerg)
Finalizing pattern pieces for the first pattern of the new year (a yak/bison/muskox/Highland cow)
Planning what I’ll be working on in the first few months of 2025
Here’s your weekly dose of awesomeness from the Shiny Happy People group!
Look at the cute quilt that Brenda is working on!
She decided to set all the faces what I call “emoji-style” - heads with no bodies. Isn’t it terrific?
As I design new patterns and update all the old ones, I’ve been trying (as much as possible) to make the heads as separate pieces from the body/shoulders in order to make this kind of setting possible. It’s also going to make more of my patterns work with a new accessory set coming early next year - full-body clothing patterns!
I’m still working on the patterns, but the idea is you’ll be able to mix and match body pieces (think human bodies with animal heads like Richard Scarry’s Busytown books) and pop on any head you like.
Head over to the Shiny Happy People group on Facebook to see lots more wonderfulness people are making with my patterns—and to ask questions and share photos of your own projects. It’s my favorite place on the internet.
In an effort to make this newsletter short enough to go through most email providers without getting chopped off, I’ve broken out some favorite pieces to give them their own days.
Wednesday is for inspiration - favorite artists, books, recipes, and more. In last week’s Five Happy Things - Starting a New Book Series, you all were most interested in this book. I hope you love it! You’ll also find some excellent suggestions in the comments on that post.
Friday is for oldies but goodies from the archives. Last week you all gave this post the most love, with twice as many clicks as the next most popular post. I’ll be making more of these guides next year.
And last Monday, most of you decided to get some more info about this fabulous customer-made project. So beautiful!
You can always change which newsletters you receive by clicking this link. In the Notifications section, choose which mailings you do and don’t want. Easy peasy!
You have two ways to get the cockatiel pattern. Just do whatever works best for you and your pattern filing system. 🙂
Option #1 - click here to download the pattern for free. (Clicking that link opens a preview. From the preview, click on the little arrow pointing down to download the file to your own computer.)
Option #2 - “purchase” the pattern here and use the discount code FANCY at checkout for 100% off. (This is the option for anyone who really likes having all their patterns in their Shiny Happy World downloads library.)
I hope you have a fabulous week!
Best,
Wendi
