Meet Jammy - a sweet little jellyfish.
This is the August - and final - pattern in the Funny Faces Quilt Block of the Month Club.
Yes - I said final. The Funny Faces Club is officially closed.
This is not sad news!
There will still be lots of new quilt patterns - often more than one block a month. And there will still be a way for you to get those new patterns at a special price. Actually an even better deal! I’ll have a lot more details next week, but for now here’s a hint.
What could that mean? Tune in next week to find out. 😁
(I’m not trying to be a tease, I’m just still working out the final, fiddly details.)
Now, back to that cute jellyfish.
If you were in the Funny Faces Club you should have already received the pattern. If you weren’t in the club, you can get the new pattern here.
(If you were in the club but didn’t get your pattern yet because of something like an expired card, please get in touch with me so you don’t have to pay full price.)
With the addition of Jammy, I finally have a J block in the shop!
That puts us one step closer to a complete alphabet. Woohoo!!!
Now here are some of the details about the pattern.
As always, I made three different color samples. The top one is for a bundle of sea creatures I’m building. The one on the purple background is for the ABC quilt, and the white one on blue is for a bundle-in-progress of Australian animals.
Rather than having you cut and position eleven individual tentacles, I’ve designed them as three groups of tentacles. In the sample on blue, I used a different shade of Oyster Blenders for each group of tentacles to create some depth to the image. You can see how this all goes together in this little time lapse video.
If you’re reading this in your email app, when you click play it will open a browser version of the newsletter. Just scroll down to the video and click the play button again and it will play.
Of course, if you want to place each tentacle individually - go for it! You can just cut them apart from the little bridge of fabric that holds each group together at the top.
Here’s another fun idea to play with the pattern a little more. . .
My original jellyfish pattern (still available as part of the Sea Creatures quilt pattern) used rickrack of different sizes for the tentacles.
I loved that effect, but I found out after releasing the pattern that some countries don’t have rickrack as readily available as it is in the US. But if you have (and love) rickrack (or really any other ribbon), feel free to replace some or all of the tentacles in the new pattern. If you go with that option, I do recommend using a bit of Fray Check on the cut edges to keep them from fraying.
I hope you have fun with the new pattern!
And I can’t wait to share the other big news next week!
The peaches have been amazing this year and I can’t stop making peach crisp.
Here’s my recipe. . .
4-5 pounds peaches, peeled and sliced thick
1 orange (zest and juice)
1 small container of raspberries (or a handful of frozen raspberries)
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour (maybe more)
Mix everything together. Let it sit about five minutes while you make the topping. The sugars will start to draw out the juice in the peaches. If it seems like there’s a lot of juice, add another couple of tablespoons of flour.
Topping. . .
1 stick butter, melted
1/2 cup oats (either quick or old-fashioned, not steel cut)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour
Pour the fruit (including all the juice) into a buttered casserole dish. Crumble the topping all over the top. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 30-60 minutes.
Why such a huge range? I’ve found that the time needed really depends on how juicy your fruit is. Keep cooking until it’s really bubbly and thick-looking.
Serve hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s also delicious cold for breakfast.
Fruit! Oats! It’s totally breakfast! 🥰
Here’s your weekly dose of awesomeness from the Shiny Happy People group!
I adore this fun quilt that Kylie made with the Cuddly Cats pattern! The color palette is so much fun!
This recent post from Kristin is a great example of how terrific this group is. She’s planning to make a Woodland Critters quilt and asked everyone to show examples of ones they’ve made. People shared so many great photos of quilts showing different color palettes, a bunch of added animals, different layouts (including adding sashing and borders), and even a rag quilt version. You all are the best!!!
Head over to the Shiny Happy People group on Facebook to see lots more wonderfulness people are making with my patterns—and to ask questions and share photos of your own projects. It’s my favorite place on the internet!
The archives and sale now have their own newsletter every Friday. Last week there was a click tie between this super cute lesson, and this super useful lesson.
If you know someone who’d like to read this newsletter, please share! 🥰
Happy stitching!
I hope you have a fabulous week!
Best,
Wendi

PS - I’ve been enjoying as much of the Olympics as I have time to watch! There have been so many incredible events that make me say, “How do they do that!?” I just love watching talented people do their thing, so here’s an art version of that. 🥰
I just paid for a yearly membership. Will I still have access to the Funny Faces subscription.
